I actually already had it. My wife had grabbed the mail the day it came and didn't put it in the usual place, lol.

Power issues

I looked and still have not found a solution. I have built my controller but it is having power issues. It will boot to the Retro Pie screen and then flash a color bar and restart. I know this is due to lack of power. I bought another power injector same issue. If I plug it into the power on the board and plug into computer. No issues. Could it be the HDMI cable? Any suggests? Thanks for reading!

Figured it out it was the HDMI cable.

Hello mpd2L17,

I am having no end of grief with this issue as well.

I (like so many others apperantly) was not able to source either recommended cable, I assume you have the same problem. It would seem not all HDMI cables are created equal...........

This is incredibly frustrating as the concept is incredibly cool, but the lack of availability of the cable seem to make execution of this project super spotty.

Below is a list of things that worked and thinks that didn't.

1) This cable resulted in the issues you describe with infinite reboots.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOKO-Slim-RedM ... 2749.l2649

2) This cable would not do anything (I suspect the power line is either missing or not connected to the mini hdmi cable)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20ft-USB-Power ... 2749.l2649

3) The standard Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter worked fine with some of my HDMI cables and ran stably from a power point of view. However the cable is way to stiff and using it had resulted in the destruction of the hdmi socket and now I get video dropping out. Totally disappointed.

4) I decided the power through HDMI was too finicky and unreliable (due to a lack of availability of the recommended cable) so I picked up this power cable and used it in conjunction with #1). This worked fine except for the now intermittent HDMI port.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20ft-USB-Power ... 2749.l2649

5) Decided that I need proper strain relief and independent power lines so I ordered a few items to resolve this. I plan to run a single 24 ga external 5V power line and use the HDMI cable Shield as my ground line. I will whip it to the HDMI cable from #1) every few feet to keep it honest.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/24-AWG-Gauge-S ... 2749.l2649

Also ordered these to create a low profile right angle hdmi connector in the controller. My hope is this will give me enough space to use the original controller strain relief in the SNES controller and get away from the problems I am having.

Honestly its been a huge pain for me and my 6 year old son, but I am using this as a lesson in determination............. It's only a failure is we give up sort of thing.

I found on amazon the cable below. It will be here Friday. I will test it and give you an update. I like your walk around but I would like to have it as 1 cord only. Yeah I been looking at this for a month then I added the hdmi mini adapter to a cord and it worked. Hope I have good news for you on Friday!!

I didn't realize the cables were back in stock.

Hoping this works out for you!

The cable did not work. So I have done my own mod and it works great! I did it on an old controller case but I will get a different one and clean it up and make it look nice. This is my prototype :)

Well, that's extremely disappointing.......

The engineer in me would love to focus in the cause of the power problems............. I did something similar to what you are showing and ended up damaging the HDMI connector. It now has intermittent video when I move the controller due to a lack of strain relief.

I took a risk and ordered the recommended cables since they were available.

Plugged it in and still had crashing issues.

I then built a test setup around a raspberry pi zero I had used previously and it worked with no issue.

Seems the pi I built my prs zero around was a faulty unit.

Lesson learned..... the unit now works like it should!
