There are some free gpio pins if you wanted to add more buttons. You world have to change the case though

This is a cool little project and I'm going to try to make one. I think there might be some scope for slimming down from having a thinner PCB and not 3D printing all Of the back but just a frame and having a thin piece of plastic cut for the back. There might be some scope for optimization too if the charging circuit could be moved on to the PCB instead of being a separate module (this would allow a bigger battery and more runtime).

I notice on your site that you mention about shipping to the UK but nowhere else. Do you only ship to the UK? Other comments on this thread suggest you're somewhere else? If I were buying parts, I'd need them shipped to the US.

If nothing else, I'm wanting to hook one of these small screens up to an RPi for other reasons so hopefully I can get some good info from this project either way. Thanks.

I just used the quote so you can see I replied. First off, thanks for the kind words, it's always good to hear.

I think I have exhausted all the ways to make this smaller. The pcb is already 0.8mm thick and the pi is soldered directly to the back of the pcb so it doesn't add bulk. The down side if the flush mount, means that I can only populate the one side of the board, and so am super limited on space. I personally can't think of a way to add the charging circuit without adding a second board on the back. I had toyed with the idea of making a shim style board that sat in a corner of the back, to add charging and safe shutdown, but couldn't find a way to do so without adding more bulk. The easy answer would be to just use a protected cell, and have a method of external charging. I even tried to design the casing as small as possible, not even completely encasing the screen, just cradling it. It can of course be run without the case. I had considered some clear heat shrink to make it super skinny and safe too

I do ship worldwide, tindie tries to guess where you are from and tell you the shipping, but it doesn't always work.

There is no stock in tindie at the moment. I'm working with crowdsupply to get a big pre-order system rolling, so watch this space....

0.8? PCBWay goes down to 0.4 ;)

You are likely right on the charging circuit. I was just eyeballing it and probably being over-optimistic. Some of those batteries do have simple protection circuits for sure. An external charger might be a reasonable option.

The main thing with the case is I know when I 3D print, I have to do a reasonable thickness for it to be stable and you also have the lettering embossed which is additional thickness.

Still, I'm sure you're on to other projects already and we're talking of shaving maybe 2mm so not to worry.

wow 0.4mm pcb!!! thats crazy!! i guess the next step down is flex, which will save a fraction.

trimming a few mm might not be too difficult. but i would have to re-design the case again

Yeah, I was thinking flex might be the way to go but you'd need more support from the case.

If/when I get around to this, if you haven't, I might have a go at the case myself.

Hello,

I mounted a tiny pi0cket with this card (https://644db4de3505c40a0444-327723bce2 ... c3d4f1.png) and everything works fine except the battery.

For the moment I put a battery with a charger that I plug but not ideal: /

Do you have any advice?

i do!!! That board actually has a slight error on it. You need to bridge the battery negative to the gnd on the pi

I hope moosepr doesn't mind me advertising a TinyPi sale here. I'm selling one. UK only post - it's on Ebay :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TinyPi-Minia ... 2858920568

Back Story : I got interested in this project about a month ago and decided to make two. I sourced the parts, and got the PCBs printed by JLCPCB. A friend printed the case, with an X shaped joystick controller. I modded the charger board with a 4.7k resister to slow charging for safety. The case doesn't have "TinyPi" on it, since we had trouble getting that to come out at an acceptable quality.

It's well made, unused, and has all the exact parts listed by moosepr. Only differences are the board and case don't have the TinyPi logo. It's running a Pi Zero v1.3 no wifi version, since this takes something like 15% less power. You just load games via Pi's USB port using a USB stick (self loading basically). Included is a new Samsung 32GB Evo Plus Micro SD Card with the TinyPi Retropie version installed.

It was an interesting project with great walk-throughs and documentation by moosepr.:)
