Live USB will work, but honestly its just easier to use another pi.... pop the SD in and load your roms. Desoldering 12 wires (also cheapest option) is even imo more easy than buying a usb stick and imaging it, especially if you're only going to use it to transfer roms......

and I don't know why anyone is loading roms more than once or twice...ever. I loaded all mine in one go and have never even hooked it back up to a PC since.

Yup, I am super confused with your reasoning here. Everyone has PC's sitting around, and I have a drawer of ten or so USB's that are all capable of being a live USB within a matter of five minutes, and I'm guessing most people have a couple of USBs laying around doing nothing. It doesn't take any more work, the files are already on the hard drive, you just have to transfer. No money lost. Why would purchasing another pi and then having to solder be easier?

I also recommend on having a system to use, because tinkering will always come up. It is nice to have something readily available where I can use a PC to look into the RPI files and OS.

Like I said. Either way will work. Pi zero requires no soldering to work with, you just plug in a keyboard and USB power. And usually everyone I know orders 2 when they can get their hands on them anyway. but if you don't have one, using a live USB stick is the next easiest way. It's definitely not faster though. It's honestly the same thing when it comes down to it I guess. :) 5 dollar pi or 5 dollar USB stick. Cheers.
