Black screen - Advice Needed

Post by ToPFouraces » Wed Sep 14, 2016 1:52 am

Hey guys,

I tried to hook my up screen to my raspberry pi zero today but I haven't been able to get any image to show on the screen.

Could anyone take a look at my wiring and give me some tips? Cheers! :)

It looks like you have followed @Fleder ´s guide correctly ( http://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=958 ), so no idea. Have you checked if you have sorted both yellow and black wires? They look really close from each other.

Is this board working with 5v? If not, you will not see any image.
Did the display work at all with any other source and 12v?
Have you tried using the other video input wire, too?

It´s the same board that I have, and yes, it works 5v right out of the box. It worked for me with the same setup that he has.

Oh, okay then it should work.
Try switching out the White for the Yellow wire.
And clean up your soldering. It looks pretty wild.
Cut your wires short, twist before you tin them and make sure you have a good enough power supply for your Pi.
Also, your Pi has to be on and sending out a Video signal, or else your display will not turn on.

I've lost count of the number of people who ask why their screen isn't working, and their solder connections look like that.

I'd remove them, re-strip and tin the wires, then re-solder your connections remembering to heat the pad (not the solder).

Looks like a lot of bare wire there, hopefully nothing has shorted out and you can just redo it. Always best to check your connections after doing any soldering using a magnifying glass, before applying power, just to double check.

Thanks for your advice everyone! I completely restripped and resoldered the wires, so they are looking a lot less wild now

Turns out the issue was to do with the software I'd installed onto the SD card. After trialing a few different versions I got it working.
