Suggestion for custom PCB board makers

Post by Aquova » Fri Sep 23, 2016 5:35 pm

Hi all,

I recently bought the custom PCB board made by kitsch-bent: http://market.sudomod.com/kitsch-bent-gbz-button-pcb/
and while I'm really impressed with its quality, I'm a little disappointed that the only option in the store has the ABXY buttons at 90 degrees with each other. SNES controllers always had the XY buttons slightly skewed to the AB buttons, so it feels a little unnatural to have them at a different angle, not to mention you can't use the button pads from SNES controllers, as they're at a different angle too. (I also already drilled the holes at the off-angles :? )

I don't wish to come off as complaining, but I would love to see an option in the store that has the ABXY buttons at the angle of the SNES controllers :D

It isn't the PCB makers that are at fault, Nintendo put their A/B buttons at a different angle on the Gameboy. Here's an overlay to show you the difference:

If you try to put the X button hole directly above the B button hole then your Y and A buttons will be really far apart and at a different angle, which would probably be even more uncomfortable. You'd have to 3D print a case from scratch if you wanted the buttons to line up the same way the SNES controller does.

Huh. I had never realized that before. Still, keeping the AB buttons where they are, I think it would still be possible to have the SNES dimensions, just at a rotated angle.

I'm very bad at placing things, but I can see what I can do for a one-off common ground PCB for you.
