hey guys, just to share my result with this particular screen. i managed to make it work with a raspberry pi 3.
As instructed i removed the component at the bottom right and soldered in the 5v input.

I've yet to try this on a pi zero (it is still shipping here). But at least i've figured out how this lcd can be powered with 5v.
