Hey there! yeah i already have them made, the first batch had an issue with a via being misplaced onto a trace, so it permanently activated the A button. My mistake for not running a DRC. I made it from scratch without using helders file as I thought it would be a little more fun to make my own footprints and such, and because while he has the files available open source, and i did have a look at them for inspiration, I just would rather work on a new one from the ground up myself. I just feel more comfortable doing this way, as there have been numerous people copying helders designs and just straight reselling and such and its just a spit in the face to Helder who has provided so much work for our community, to have people just rip him off like that. Really grinds my gears

Anyways, the first batch came in and i noticed my mistake. The second updated batch has already been shipped and i should be receiving it within the next week or 2. Here is a picture of the 3d model.

thats looks great, thanks.....

but i wasnt looking at a retail product for the community, i'm all for open source (within reason, i appriciate people need to cover their costs).....
and i appriciate people put their time into things (and unfortunately there are those that will look to capitalise on it, its what happens in capitalism)
but that what the whole maker movement is about.... sharing idea, design and building on from it

i'm more for giving to the community, rather than cashing in on a built up market (my opinion, so no one get their knickers in a twist)
i appricaite some may not have facilities for certain things (ie 3d printers) but most people have services local that can help them or a friend (there will always be the minority that has neither)

now i not having a go at anyone, but rather laying my opinion out about the they way things have suddenly shifted in recent times

i think people dont understand what a community is and have really just started looking at the members as patrons....

again IMHO, dont get upset

but nice board design....

Going back to the 1Up kit:

IMO the part about the kit that breaks the easiest is the audio jack. I never got how to connect those properly without melting away all the plastic that encases it. As I type this I'm heating up my soldering iron to reconnect the ground for the 3rd time :D

I think there could be a better way, like an audiojack with already connected wires, or removing the jack alltogether and soldering to the pi directly. Although that would make one more hardwired connection which is really bad when opening up the system again...

Anyone found a better solution here?
I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee :-O

Oh i fully understand, makes total sense. Im not upset at all and I agree with you. And thats why the community so so wonderful. I joined a little more than a year ago and at that time there wasnt really much in the area of 3rd party items going around. Just about helder's boards and thats it. I think a few people were barely designing some screens as well. Now there are so many items to make the builds quicker and easier and i think its really cool, especially for the people who arent as well-versed in electronics and soldering and the such.

When i started designing items, I had the intention of making everything open-sourced, as I have mentioned o a few people here and on other groups. But i started listening to some of the horror stories with people stealing and reselling and that honestly really put me off. If this was the same community i started with a while back I wouldnt have even gave it a second thought. But I was actually convinced by others not to release for those reasons.

Its a shame when I see people reselling Helder's boards with his name removed, or selling Wermy's 3d printed parts on ebay. I understand they provided the files, but its no reason for people to profit off of others' hard work. Again, spit in the face to those helping the community and makes them want to provide less in the future, as we are seeing now. Especially with people taking Helder's board and not open-sourcing their developments on it like he specifically asks.

I only have like 1 and half things im selling right now, and both times, ive always asked the community what they believe is a fair price and more or less let them set price. Because im not here to gouge anyone. I want to provide things to people to make their builds easier and cleaner, while also justifying the costs that go into it. I let the community decide so they can have their input since we are all in this together as a community.

I certainly hope no one feels like Im trying to milk them, and I hope I havent given that impression
