640x480 3.5 LCD to Pi wiring.
I'm starting on a Sega Nomad Pi3 prodject, and I bought this display.

I was wondering how I should wire it to my Pi3 for the best resolution? I know a few guys have used this display but I don't know if they used the composite output or the VGA output to the Pi. Will the composite produce good resolution? Should I use a VGA to HDMI adapter?
Thanks

I believe DPI gives the best picture, but it uses most if not all of the GPIO pins.

How does it look using the composite connection? Is it better than the other 3.5 screens out there. I'm wondering if I have room in my Nomad for a VGA to HDMI converter. If the composite is good I may just go that route.Ganreizu wrote:I use composite on mine.

I don't have any frame of reference.toiletpaper69 wrote:How does it look using the composite connection? Is it better than the other 3.5 screens out there. I'm wondering if I have room in my Nomad for a VGA to HDMI converter. If the composite is good I may just go that route.
I think the picture quality is good but i'm not a videophile (or whatever the video equivalent to the term audiophile is). I don't think you'll have room for a converter to be honest.

Thanks for your input. I'm just curious of what everyone is doing.Ganreizu wrote:I don't have any frame of reference.toiletpaper69 wrote:How does it look using the composite connection? I've used composite to connect it. IMHO it looks better then the other 3.5" TFTs, at least way better then the one I got with the huge driverboard.

I connected mine up to one of these

I cut it open and had to shorten the cable to about 1". Its pretty fine delecate soldering but the picture is far clearer and colours much crisper than composite. Theres a lot of wires that obviously need to be put back in the right place but was totally worth it.
