You are a gentleman (gentlewoman?) and a scholar! Thank you much! Yeah it definitely recommends 9V for the backlight, but I wonder if there's a step-up voltage regular on that driver board that supplies the 9V while letting you actually only give 5V to the driver board itself. We shall see!

I managed to find a new one in an electronics forum. Bought it and now i am waiting for the mailman.
Lets see if this 640x480 screen is really worth those 40€ i paid for it.
