Display distortions, artifacts

Hi

My GBZ is progressing well but I have some weird display problems.

After a few minutes it gets really warm and artifacts start to appear. Yellow/Green pixels at the bottom that expand into a sort of halo.
I had the PI over the display connector, processor facing to the connector and thought it was heat related.

Yesterday I placed the PI differently, the processor facing inside the case away from the display and the PI itself is still over the connector/display but a good bit lower than before and further away from the connector.

I still get these distortions and tested it with the pi removed too.

The best part: its not really reproduceable, sometime it stays fine for half an hour, sometimes it takes just a few minutes.

I already replaced the display cable (a thicker one) and removed ground to PI and wired ground to my general ground. (power directly from the powerboost).

Sooo. I tested a lot of stuff and I still can't get it to work like it should

I use the BW display, version 7.
It starts out perfectly fine after it has been off for a while and then gets worse and worse (see pictures, after about 30 minutes)
I tried:
- moving the PI away from the display connector facing away from it
- putting an insulator in between Pi and display
- powering without the short wire, with the short wire and directly through the short wire
- grounding to pb ground or PI ground
- AV1 and AV2
- putting a heatsink on the PI
- using a much thixker video cable
- using ferrit cores on the AV or ground cable

I dont know what to try. the gbz works perfectly besides the display.
But I did notice, that when the display gets worse, the sound (usb sound) gets slower too (psnes reports full framerate though)

I tried adding a fan in the meantime, cutting big openings on the side to let air through...that hat almost no effect.
the distortions get even worse when I play longer. After the pixel halos, about an hour in, vertical lines start to appear, I could't capture that on a photo.

Can you show how is it inside?

your problem might be the display not getting enough power. what gauge wire are you using to power it?

I had also the same problem with my build. I checkt my solder points and Wires. Changed power wire from 30AWG to 26AWG and Checkt with mij multimeter if evry things was fine. And it works again.

So Check Solderpoints
Use 26AWG for Power and Ground.

Judging by these, it sounds like wiring. Wires can and will heat up, increasing resistance and causing loss of power and that could impact your entire build.

i am having a simular issue, but with mine i only really get the wavy lines when its in the retropie menu. any idea what could be causing this?
resolution? framerate? lack of power?

i solved my issue by using a thicker gauge wire
