Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
Mine does not seem to have a problem, but I only tried the menu and the doom screen
the retropie logo looks the worst
and my eyesight is funny
I suppose this is normal with a composite screen?

I cracked it open the portable LCD ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/291709734092 ). It has regulated 3.3v, 5.2v and 12v output on certain points on the board. Its a little bulky but it seems that its going to fit fine in the Gameboy case with no trimming with the connectors, switch and buttons of the LCD nicely reach the edge to have access to them. And yes, there is a small speaker in there!!

Also, have you had success connecting it to the pi and running? I'd love to see some pics of it in action or even a video!
I'm about to try it in a few minutes. I left it in its case for now and hooked up external wires to see the quality of the image first.
I'll make a new thread for it if it's suitable.
Thanks
Thanos
Its success! I hooked up the rasperry zero to the 5v on the battery powered security screen and boots up fine to retropie and image is stable. I get low battery indication on the screen but I believe it's because of the single 2000mA battery can't deliver much current and drops voltage. I'll hook up 2 or 4 cells in parallel of I have space and it will be OK.
Also tried the audio... it's clear and very loud!!! I'll have to figure a way to add volume trimmer.
Something is wrong with the photo uploads, I get a HTTP error message when trying to upload from my Android smartphone. I'll try from PC later.
Thanks

Thanks

After I soldered better the power to the raspberry zero I don't get the low battery indication on the LCD anymore, but I'll place bigger battery as I see I still have plenty of space. I'll use the cool Smakn charger booster as well. It will fit and will nicely tell me the remaining battery level all the time.
Also found place for the raspberry zero, in the cartridge slot, to have access for hdmi adapter...
I really need to open a new thread on this...
Thanks

Great idea for the USB and HDMI Ports!
Man, this looks more cramped than my build. I hope you will fit everything inside the shell.

Everything fits inside the box so far. What I like with this display I got, is that all in included with it, battery, charger, sound amplifier with speaker. It even keeps the power on while I charge it. Power switch and USB on the edge of the board, so less wiring and glue of parts and provides power to the rasperry pi zero. It fits the case with minimal trimming of the case insides.Fleder wrote:Great idea for the USB and HDMI Ports!

Also compared the image quality between this security tester screen and the BW screen, and I found the image quality of the first one more clear with better contrast and colors.

Ok, I just got this one today through mail. It's the ebay one 640x480 3,5" display
Any ideas on how to wire this one? i see there's no 12v input! so it should work with just the 5v points? or should i use the 3.3v also?
i suppose cvbs 1 is one of the composite inputs (seems to have two)
but is there a good possibility on using vga without loosing the hdmi out? i read about those gert666 adapters but don't know if it fits with our pi zero project... https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 94424&f=91
anyone tried? or should i forget about and use composite?
Thanks!!!!
