Came across this Gameboy Zero by youtuber GreatScott, thought I'd share. For now it's above my skill level, but may be useful to some of the more skilled hobbyists here. It's very tidy, and he manages to run it using standard AA batteries, saving the original battery compartment..

Cool. It's exciting that GreatScott made one of these, he has a lot of great videos. I really like his custom printed backplate. I did something similar but used perfboard instead.

I looked at this for my build but it requires 8AA (needs at least 7v) batteries to work 4AA batteries won't give enough voltage (4.8V with rechargeable and 6V with regular) to get it workingABH wrote:If anyone want to use AA batteries :

This batteries will have 1.425 Volts when fully charged and 1.20 Volts when depleted. Why do you need 7 Volts, though? I thought most, if not all of the components need 5 Volts.
Somehow stepping it down to 5 Volts will be inefficent as you will in some way always have an energy loss. That energy loss is usualy dissipated heat by step-down circuits.

So to clarify, is there any reason that 4x AA batteries cant be used rather than trading out for an aftermarket battery?
Space issues perhaps?

Haven't ruled these out yet, wired in parallel should give ~3000mAh at 3,7V.
