Largest Battery Size

I found an LG on the side of the road a few months back. The phone was destroyed the the battery was functional. I did not have any issues soldering a couple of wires to the terminals of it.

It should work. Just remember that Chinese manufactures/sellers are notorious for lying about capacity. I would compare the physical size of that battery to others to make sure you are not getting ripped off.

Therein lies the problem, though. How do you know it's a shitty battery until you buy and test it?

The only reason not to use a cellphone battery (as rodocop pointed out) is that it can be dangerous to solder directly to the terminals.

I've got to say, I really like the idea of using a phone battery. It's clean, it's tidy and it would give a professional, finished look to the build. But yeah, soldering seems like a big downside.

So... why not use cell phone battery terminals? Cut a hole in the battery compartment, fit one inside, then you can solder to the terminal block, rather than the battery itself:

Or alternatively, you could make some. Any hobby shop should have thin strips of brass; bend it into a P-shape with some tweezers, cut a slot in the bottom of the battery compartment, and fit the strips in place, so they connect with the battery when you pop it in.

Or, probably simplest and cheapest of all... use pogo pins. That would just require a couple of holes drilled in the battery compartment.

That's what I did with this 4800 mah Samsung battery that fits perfectly in the battery compartment without gutting it out. Used an old Motorola phone I had and used the pogo pins that connected to the battery and placed it in GB case. No wires attaching battery. Works great.

There is acutally no reason not to solder to the terminal of phone batteries as the terminals are on the protection PCB not the battery itself, so you are already one layer extra removed from the battery so not a problem as long as you're decent at soldering and dont spend several minutes with an over hot iron, over working it.

That's what I did with this 4800 mah Samsung battery that fits perfectly in the battery compartment without gutting it out. Used an old Motorola phone I had and used the pogo pins that connected to the battery and placed it in GB case. No wires attaching battery. Works great.

This is the sort of thing I'm intending to do myself. I was going to use a Samsung Galaxy SIII battery from Anker (so I know the capacity is reasonably accurate ) I've 3D modelled a holder for it with a cutout for sprung contacts to be used instead of the original battery box.
It's 2200mAh though. Where on earth did you find a 4800 phone battery???

that's a 9200 mAh 3.7v battery that fits in the battery compartment. I'm not done with my build yet so I don't know how well it will work in the end.

Ahhh. It's a double thickness SII battery. a regular SII was my original thought as I have a dead SII here with a fine battery. I didn't know anyone made a 'fat' SII battery.

Yeah that double thickness is just the right height to fit and close the case without having to cut the bottom out. Capacity wise I'm waiting for it to discharge to test but I've been playing with it on kites build on and off for the last few days, around four hours is my guess, with wifi on at times and screen full brightness and I'm still showing green on the battery meter so I think it's satisfactory.
