Hello everyone! I have been working on this project for a while now. I stopped for a few months, but now I'm just getting back into the swing of it, and I feel like I am just about finished. I am doing it the old fashioned way (non-DMG, but some DIY parts, usb hub etc.), and I am at the point where I'm wiring everything up to the power strip that I handmade from copper perf board.


Heres my issue: when the Pi is NOT connected to the power strip, it turns on when connected to the wired power source (not the battery, haven't gotten there yet). When it IS connected to the strip, it WONT turn on. I will post some pics.

Can anyone tell me why this would be? Does it matter where the wires are placed on the board? Perhaps my soldering wasn't good enough. Is there a way to know for sure that they all connect? I would have just ordered the strip from OSH Park, but I'd rather not wait that long, and I have to place an order of 3 or more which feels wasteful.

Any help is appreciated!

The pic of your power strip looks like the solder is touching the middle strip, if it's like that on the other side that we can't see maybe it's bridging?

1) When not hooked to the Power Strip; Power is coming from the Micro USB Charge Cable.

2) When Hooked to the Power Strip; What is Powering the Power Strip? You state "No Battery". So you need Power going into the Power Strip, then it will go to the Pi.

Use an Ohm Meter and check to see if you have continuity between all the ends of your red wires. If you do, your good. Also, make sure there is NO Continuity between Positive and Negative.

Ahh, this might be it. So when power and ground are soldered into the pi, it reroutes away from the 5v plug? Meaning I'll have to wire in the battery to the strip and power that to see if it works?


It may also be bridging too, maybe I'll cut a new strip. Thanks!

I wound up making a new power strip and soldering all of the wires into it. I think the culprit was in fact the fact that the power supply wasn't wired in. After I wired that in, the Pi would turn on with both the 5 volt wall cord (which gave power to the power boost, then to the Pi), and the battery itself.

Now if only I could figure out why my buttons/keyboard weren't registering... Haha. I'll have to do some tinkering.
