USB Type-C for the GBZ?

Hi@all,

my first Game Boy Zero is going to get finished. I used the well known micro-USB breakout board from Sparkfun.

I'm sure this won't be my last GBZ. ;) For my second build, I'm thinking about using a USB Type-C breakout board, only for one reason, it's fancy! :D

Has someone tried this? Is there a recommendable breakout boad?

Among others I found this. It looks very wide, too wide to fit into a Game Boy case. But as I use it only for power and the power pins seem to be in the middle, it could be dremeled down to a certain size.

What do you think? Fancy idea, or too much?

Greetings

I found some smaller ones here for example.
But I don't think you can dremel a lot on this one.

USB C is quite costly, but i'd also really enjoy to have a Type C GBZ...
Unfortunately, my next build is going to be with the AIO from kite which takes standard usb... (I asked him if there was a way to modify it).

I don't think it's a good idea to use some breakout like this in real things since they are pretty hard to push inside so even glue might become loose quickly... The best thing to do would be to use a screw post + screw to stick it in place :/

Nice idea. My phone is USB-C. I think I might use this. Micro USB is old hat ;)

USB-C needs to quickly become the standard. It's needed a reversible cable. Don't have an iPhone, never have wanted one. But have loved the idea of the lightning cable. Just plug it it without having to figure out which direction it goes.

seems like alot of effort as we only use the usb as a charging port

type c has loads of connection we simply wont in the gbz build
