Tactile Buttons for the Backside

Post by LoafSlice » Mon May 16, 2016 3:07 pm

So Im having a hard time finding buttons for the back side.
I found these.

Do they specifically need to be 4 pin?

I like these, has anyone found something that would match an old arcade button that would be that small?

The reason I went with the tactile switch is they are thin and long, allowing them to come out of the screw holes a little.

For the ones you're looking at would require quite a bit more drilling out of that area (which is doable but I wanted to minimize body modifications on mine).

The 4 pins on the tactile switch are actually 2 sets of the same pins (mirrored on either side), so a 2-pin button will work just fine.

I have like a hundred of them. Easy to find. Also, I'm doing packets of them in the buy and sell thread

I found the ones used in the guide at my local radioshack quite easily. They come in packs of 4 so no need to buy more than you require online and be left with 100 buttons that you'll probably throw away. Unless there isn't a radioshack near you of course, but if you're in the US that's probably unlikely.

They will be in the next guide. :)

But here is the gist:
The buttons are just like the ones from the breakout board in the third video, just taller. The two pins on each side are connected, one side will go to ground and the other to your teensy. Use a multimeter to figure out which pins go together. You can join the two grounds so you only have one ground wire to run to the teensy. Then just stick them in the screw holes like you carved out in the first video and glue 'em down.

Hope this helps!
