Potentiometer for volume adjustment?
Hello guys!
I'm working on the volume system and now I come across the volume control part. I'm not sure what potentiometer should I use.
I got some 1K potentiometer on hand and I don't know if they will work or not.
Also, I'm not sure where should I place the potentiometer. I want it to be able to adjust both the headphone jack and the speaker so I'm assuming that I should put it right next to the low-pass filter for audio out. And I think I need 2 potentiometer since there are left and right channel.
Any ideas?

Re: Potentiometer for volume adjustment?
I would put it after the amp. I tried putting it after the filter (in my case it was USB audio but conceptually it's the same) and it was fine for controlling headphone sound but I think the amp boosts the signal negating any impedance the pot had.

Sadly I didn't.. so I need a 10K pot?
@ktechelonbreak
Damn... I wanna control the headphones volume too. Maybe I should try chain 3 pots together LOL

I am terrible with diagrams and paint but here is what I propose for your audio filter setup:
This setup would allow you to use 1 pot to control both headphones and speaker. The headphone module is the original GB one so if you have a different one, I can't help much =( .

Re: Potentiometer for volume adjustment?
I don't think it has to be 10K, you'll just have to test and see which ones have a good volume "feel"...I would think if you pick one with a higher resistance then you won't be using the full range of the knob to change the volume from max loudness to completely silent. But if you picked one with too low of a resistance it might not get as fully quiet as you want...1461748123 wrote:@Cannikin

Re: Potentiometer for volume adjustment?
I bought a few 10K pots off Amazon and while they work great for the headphones, it does indeed have a limited range for the speakers. Only about 1/4th of the dial is useful since it gets silent too quickly, possibly due to no amp attached. In any case, if your main goal is to have an adjustment knob, the 10K one works just fine, just keep in mind only the top portion of the dial is useful.
