USB Audio Wiring Diagram

Has anyone successfully wired a USB DAC to a potentiometer, headphone jack, and speaker, with or without the adafruit amp? I bought the cheap usb DAC that @chiz suggested and got it working fine direct wired to my usb hub and using its stock headphone jack, but I cannot get it to work with a speaker and/or the gameboy stock headphone jack with or without the amp. Have not even attempted placing the stock potentiometer in-line yet.

A diagram or suggestions would be appreciated from anyone who has had success. Thanks!

Slightly off-topic.
How did you manage to get the USB Soundcard working? It shows in alsamixer, but i can't get linux to use this one instead of the default speaker output.

I also decided to use the USB DAC. If you don't mind me asking what DAC did you get?

@chiz You mind chiming in how you wired speaker/headphone? Possibly a schema? I'm going this route as well.

I made a similar schema before for audio setup here:

The setup is for the low pass filter but will work with USB audio as well. Just mix L+R out to A+ on the amp. You get mono sound in headphones but it's the only way I found to get volume control on 1 pot.

I actually omitted the amplifier because it didn't seem to make much of a difference. The USB audio gave enough power that the speakers were decently loud (using 8ohm 1W speaker from Radioshack, it fits perfectly into the slot). In this scenario just take the L+R out and connect straight to Pot Rin and GnD straight to headphone GnD.
