Help guys!

First time ive used a Banggood power supply as on my previous two builds i used the Adafruit Powerboost.
Have wired up as per the diagram above.

When i connect my micro USB charger, red light comes on on the Bangood. All ok.

I then connected my USB hub to the powerboard. All ok.

My USB hub has a blue LED and that's nice and bright when the Gameboy switch is on.

Problem is that as soon as i add more to the powerboard the LED on the USB hub dims considerably. I hooked up the Pi, screen etc and no output. The LED on the USB hub is dim which suggests there's a power issue?!

I unhooked screen, pi etc one by one and tried different combinations incase one of those was to blame but same fault.

Any ideas?

So does everything work and the hub LED just dims? Or do you get no power to any of the other components? One thing with those power boosts is the battery needs to be connected. I remember when I first used one I didn't connect the battery when testing but plugged a micro usb in. The LED would show red, but not provide power to anything. I thought it was broken, until I wired the battery up.

Thanks mate! Fixed my issue. Connected the battery and everything fired up. Ridiculous!

But glad its sorted. Never occurred to me this would be required.

You can tell by looking at a spec's voltage output. Very often that's where you'll see the max current output.

Step up voltage output: 5V 1A max

This means it can provide 1Amp of current. That may be enough for the PiZero and screen btw, but I don't think a Pi3 could run off of it.

Ahh i see, thats good to know. Is that standard for the Bangood power supply then?

How does that compare to the Powerboost 1000c?

Im using a Pi Zero on this build.

Every boost/buck converter will have it listed somewhere. They'll all be different. Little cheap ones like that seem to vary from 500mA (.5A) to 2A or maybe even 3A.

Try looking on the product page for the Powerboost and see if you can find it for me.

I'm curious why you're calling it a banggood item but you bought it from ebay.

I guess I'm not sure about a charger board that provides over 1A. The powerboosts seem to all be 1A or less on adafruit.

I googled the current draw of the PiZero and it seemed to be quite less than 1A with a lot of stuff going on. If you're doing a Pi0 build that's probably a fine powerboost. I can't answer your question though, lol, sorry.
