Battery drain when the system is off

Post by winnetouch » Fri Jul 14, 2017 11:19 pm

Is anyone experiencing Battery drain when their system is off? I'm using a banggod power boost and a 4000 mah battery. I didn't really notice it untill I sharged up the battery in the evening and plugged the zero back in in the morning to check something. I noticed that the red charging LED lit up instead of the green one. I realise there is always a minimal power drain but it took a solid 10 minutes to charge back the battery. Is that normal?

You will always get some charging if you plug the battery back in. The chemicals inside the cell have chance to rest while it is sat disconnected, so they can take a little more charge later on
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

This drain is part of the power boost and how we are using them: the battery is usually always connected to the boost converter and just the enable pin is switched. The internal drain is discribed in the boost specifications. Usually something less than one mA. Should not discharge your battery during some weeks!

I agree. Check with a multimeter if you want to make sure your gbz isn't discharging too much battery when off.

When you charge a battery, it's getting hot. Even if it is shown as full, when resting, the temperature drops and the chemicals sat in place well so you have a slight more room for charging.

This normal, i experience this with my lipo cells for my 1/8 scale nitro rc car !
