Hmmm... I have some ideas... thanks veteran! I have access to a silhouette cutter so some experimentation is definitely in order! :D
Any luck with the silhouette cutter experiments ?
When I first came on here I had just missed a Kite SAIO pre-order, so whilst waiting for the next round I started sourcing parts. At that time I just managed to catch Dominator and he made me a grey Game Boy Zero screen surround.
By the time the Kite pre-order came around Kite had changed it from the SAIO to the Circuit Sword which as we all know now uses a CM3 and having Game Boy Zero on the front simply will not do. :D so am looking at getting a custom one done.
I don't trust the template I have so if anyone has a better template in SVG and can tell me size ect I can draw a better one out.
I’m in UK (London) so UK would be preferable.
Thanks Cooper.

its not really that difficult to do these at home....

if you have a printer local (printing company), it will obviously make it slight easier if they are also able to cut it to size.....

but even with that, i did this one in around 15min (cutting and applying)....

not 100%, but practice makes perfect....
and if doing it at home, you'll be printing around 8 on a sheet....

plus dont get ripped off buying clear screen surrounds off eBay or other sellers
get them off aliexpress (where they are buying them from)....

Also for the clear screens if you get a glass replacement when you buy the case, acetone and alcohol will take the screen printing right off the stock ones.

Veteran,

When you cut the clear vinyl, do you remove the inner part, so you are left with a 3mm wide surround, or do you just put the vinyl over the whole screen cover?

the inner square/part is cut out....

this does however cause a bit of an issue when applying, as it makes the whole thing a little too floppy/flexible
the way that i've worked around this is to apply some masking/builders tape to make it more rigid again...

i've tried a few ways of applying it to the glass...
glass layed flat and sticker applied on top...
sticker layed flat (secured with some tape), with glass applied on top...

personally i've found it easier with the sticker layed flat, but this is a personal preference others may find a easier/better way....

but other than that its fairly straight forward....

Could you just apply them and then cut the window out after they have been applied. I'd imagine you could apply enough force to cut through the vinyl but not scratch the glass without too much trouble.

I just pre-ordered the circuit sword too. Trying to think of an alternate name to Game Boy Zero besides Game Boy CM3. What are you calling yours on your screen?

I was trying to ignore names completely and just go for a logo. Something like this but haven’t had any luck getting one made.

Thanks Cooper.
So I've FINALLY got round to setting this up and investigating. Basically Silhouette studio is made for this exact task. It has a mode called Print and Cut where you load in the images into the editor that you want to print, and create your cut lines around the bits you want cut out. Then when it prints, you have to set up registration marks and then then the cutter can detect where the page is aligned to and cut out things exactly in the right place. I've ordered the transparent vinyl and will be trying it out next week on a different project. the only downside is that Silhouette studio seems to play havoc with my network connectivity...
