Not to knock all the hard work everyone here is doing, it's great. But doing straight voltage measurement of a lithium battery with an ADC to try to determine the state of charge of the battery is not very accurate. The voltage curves of lithium batteries makes it hard to actually determine the state of charge with just a voltage measurement.

For anyone that's interested:

http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/arti ... _of_charge

But there are actual battery monitors/fuel gauges designed to account for this. And many of them use the I2C protocol for communication, so they could fit easily into existing scripts

Something like that would be good for sure, i've ordered a few as well...as for hard work hehe, the script has already been made by HoolyHoo so there is no hard work necessary for us at least.

for me personally im not looking for great accuracy, as long as there is a rough gauge of whats left that will work for me

but if anyone is interested in the sparkfun lipo fuel gauge
they can get it for a fraction of the cost on aliexpress

DO NOT BUY THESE. None of them work, at all, like they have cloned the chip and it literally doesn't work :P I tried these chips on my SAIO (older version of board had a missing component and all the bits there to make it work, it was for this chip) so unless you buy it from Adafruit, it won't work. The chip costs a lot itself, so if it's being sold for $4 or less, it's fake and is a 100% waste of money :P just a warning :)

FYI it reports random values that increase: https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=341825.0

Sorry yes they're sparkfun boards (red) not adafruit! The sparkfun ones are legit and will work :)

Ps the caps were to make it clear to anyone browsing, not shouting or anything just I've bought quite a few and all are dud other than a legit sparkfun one from the sparkfun site! :)

Haha :) still kinda annoyed about those chips as on paper that would be perfect, easy to design and put on a board but the legit part (which is quite hard to find IN China, so would mean expensive shipping + import from US in the first place).. it's a shame but like i think was posted here on on discoord (e.g. this http://www.ti.com/product/BQ27621-G1/samplebuy) would be really good but it's BGA which is a little less friendly :)

maybe it can sound stupid but did you try to talk with the mods here about shipping to them (USA to USA) and then they send the IC's to you via regular parcel as gift, to avoid customs and importation taxes and so ?
