Just corrupted an SD card in my Pi Zero

Hey guys, Not to plug my graceful shutdowns project but, I was doing a bunch of system testing and had a bit of a loose wire on the powerboost with the Pi Zero plugged directly to it and not my pololu. The loose wire made my Pi turn on and off a bunch of times. Not that many. Maybe a dozen times. That was before I put everything away for the night. Today, I try to boot up and I get nothing. No activity light. No anything. I panic, thinking I fried my Pi somehow. So, I unseal my second Pi Zero fresh out of the bag, throw in the SD from the first Pi and plug it into the wall just to make sure it's not my powerboost. The new Pi doesn't boot up! Hmm.. Then I tried my SD from my Pi 2 and place it in both Pi Zeros and they boot up no problem! (It just doesn't launch EmulationStation since it's a different build). So definitely the original SD card got fried from all that rebooting the day before.

Looks like this might be a bigger problem than previously thought.

Damn, sorry to hear.
But at least it is only the SD. They are like 5€ for 16GB.
Since i read about corrupted SD Cards, i always keep a backup of the card somewhere safe.
Is the card really dead or could you try to revive it with formatting in linux then windows?

I'm working on soldering at the moment. (Damn USB hub!) Then, working on PWM Audio later today. I'll try to reformat it later tonight and see if it comes back.

Just tried really quickly. Looks like the SD is dead. It appears uninitialized on my Mac. And when I use Disk Utility to initialize it, it just freezes after creating the partition map and when trying to read it again.

I had a Pi2 running Kodi with Berryboot and the SD card would get corrupted if the Pi was suddenly turned off. Since i upgraded this to a Pi3, I have not had any problems, I have not had this problem with any other model of Pi as yet.

RIP micro SD card

On the bright side we could also congratulate you on tripping a "rare" event in the life of a pi :]

The same thing happened for me. It was a 64gb kingston card, which was pretty expensive :|

It is bad luck. I lost one recently also before getting SSH setup for pushing sudo shutdowns. It's scrapped and trashed. Oh well.

Do you think it happened because it restarted 12 times quickly? or do you think its because of the hard shutdown?
