Low Battery Indicator Questions

Post by FlashyFrank » Wed Apr 11, 2018 5:55 pm

I am interested in adding a low battery indicator to my next build and I found this

"https://www.retrogamingnow.com/pro-shop ... icon-9432x"

but I can not find any info on how to install or setup. Does anyone have any experience with this item or other ways of adding a low battery indicator.

Im guessing this indicator is hardware only so that would mean no onscreen battery indicator?

Thanks!

Hi Frank, I am not familiar with the item you linked but I did use the search function here, and found a pretty long thread describing an on-screen battery indicator. https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... tery+meter

Yeah. Using the info in the link you can buy an ads1015 or ads1115. And use that to have an on screen monitor (using hoolyhoos combo script). The one you posted will just illuminate an led when the battery is low, and I've never used one before so I can't comment on how to install.

I saw that forum thread but I got really confused when I tried to understand all the conversations going on.

So after looking it over a little more I came across this item
"https://www.ebay.com/itm/ADS1115-4-Chan ... SwzgRW1510"

This is the ADS1115 that you mention?

So I can add this into my build and add in the hoolyhoos script and it should work?

Is there a diagram for how to wire?

That was a board I made and put up on OSHPark.com before any of the on screen solutions existed.

Here's a diagram from veterangames ultimate build.

Wire it that way and install the script. (If using hoolyhoos script, you will need to adjust it for the ads 1115, since his script is meant for an 1015. If you buy an ads1015 it will just work)

Ok, great. I think the onscreen monitor is probably the way to go so I will order one of the ads1015's and see if I can get it all working. This will be my second build and it will use a few different components so I might have lot's of questions.

Thanks rodocop, seems like you always come through with the info. :)

and hello Helder, love all the work you have done! ;)

I have been working on my second build and so far everything is going pretty well.

I am trying to install the onscreen battery display and I think I am having trouble with the HoolyHoo Minty script. I followed the directions listed "https://github.com/HoolyHoo/MintyComboScript" but upon restarting the pi and SSHing into the 'boot' directory there is no 'mintypi' directory for me to edit the pinfile.txt.

I have tried reinstalling the script a few times and nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might have done wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
