removing ink from original clear screen protector cover (lens)?

Post by fedplast » Thu Jul 07, 2016 1:16 pm

Hi,
I have multiple game boys casings, which came with the screen cover/lens, which of course cannot be used as is since the gray frame printed on the back would block part of the 3.5" screen. has anyone attempted removing the gray ink somehow? if not I will try some test, tho I'm afraid that the usual solvents might haze or even melt the acrylic plastics.
(i've got everything from alcohol, mineral spirits, turpentine, varsol, etc.)

I remember someone posted here that they dipped it in acetone, then quickly cleaned it off. Appeared to work, but seems risky. Acetone can be brutal to Gameboy parts.

I used paint Thinner on a paper cloth, and rubbed the paint off succesfully.

It was an aftermarket window, so resutls can vary.

I tried to use nail polish remover with acetone and it worked! I'm using the lens of a replacement shell and rub the color off with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover. My lens is still transparent but the lens cover on the front is scratched so it doesn't look that good yet.

I can agree! I just received a Gameboy screen lense replacement von Banggood and could perfectly remove the ink with some acetone nail polish remover. Takes a bit longer (the whole process took me around an hour), but it's a quite cheap alternative. One screen is about 3$.
