Dreemkitten's newb GBZ project

Post by dreemkitten » Thu Jul 14, 2016 12:14 pm

Hello everyone, I don't know if this is in the correct place, but I am going to shortly start working on building a GBZ (hopefully non-OEM).

I was hoping to get feedback as to the compatibility of my chosen components.

Tools
dremel

hot glue gun

dremel

I need a recommendation on perhaps the stand thing wermy uses in his videos, seems useful

I would like to buy one from Helder. I am not sure but does his audio one bypass the need for any components?

I have a lot more to list here, but I live in the US, so I was trying to buy as many/ all parts from china first. Does anyone know of any other parts that are a lot easier to work with that come from china?

My Audio Controller PCB has all you need to do the audio if you go with the GPIO PWM Audio and not the USB Audio.

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.

Looks like you are taking a non-OEM part build. I did the same thing, you're welcome to look at my build log as well as ask me questions. Glad to help. Going to answer some of your questions based on my experience.

Tools
dremel

The WEN rotary tool works fine and saves you tons of money. I woodwork (and am pretty good at it) for a hobby, and I own tons of different rotary tools and don't really care which ones I grab. Just buy dremel bits, and you won't know the difference
hot glue gun

ie=UTF8&qid=1468519371&sr=8-4&keywords=hot+glue
I actually recommend a cold-temp hot glue gun. The high temp can melt cords and plastic if you touch the tip to something by accident. It is just a lot better working with also not burning your fingers. You can get hot glue guns from walmart in the craft/fabric section for $4. Just make sure you also get low-temp hot glue sticks (hot temp gun will melt anything, low-temp only melts low temp)

This link didn't work, but I already answered about the rotary

It's called Helping Hands Amazon

Case

Bought the case from the same seller - NB games. Been good for two of two so far

Screen

Didn't buy this one, but it looks fine. The biggest mystery with screens if you can get them to run on 5v with easy mod. Check the forum Fleder has about working screens, and the wiki. Hopefully someone has already found and used this board and got it working.

Pi0

https://www.adafruit.com/products/2885

Teensy

https://www.adafruit.com/products/2419

If it is in stock, this should be fine. I typically order through pimoroni using paypal though because they tend to be a lot more reliable with their stock. The pi (I recommend getting the pi + adapter pack for 8euro for your first one) and teensy LC will run you $28.50 after cost and shipping, but you can count of them having stock within two days if their out of stock for some reason. Will take about a week to get to you also. Always been great people to me.

Good luck, and have fun building! Let me know if you need anything else.
