Hi guys, I'm following this board from the first build of Mr Wermy.
I start collecting parts and component around the internet in April. I complete the build 2 days ago and i'm still little bit tuning retropie for a better experience.
My project is a little bit different from the original concept.
Highlights:
- 6 button on the front
- Wifi and bluetooth direct soldered to the usb hub
- HDMI full size
- Raspberry ZERO
- usb sound card
- i didn't use the cartridge reader. I have more room inside.
- 2 tactile buttons on the back that i'm using as enter and escape.
That's a picture about the final build.
ANd now i will start the long and difficult story of my build !!!!
Main problem: i can't find any cheap game boy to mod for my purpose so i decide tu buy just a case from aliexpress for 10euro !!
After that i also buy some copper tape, some tactile buttons and a prototype pcb.
And we've arrived to the second problem. I don't have any old pcb from gameboy and i want a 6 button layout so i have to make one by myself.
Don't be scared by my DIY pcb !!! I know is nothing elegant and profesional but it works !!! In the first image i use copper tape to create a ground and a connect pad. I tested every single piece with multimeter. In the second image i connect all the ground together so i will use just one gpio for the ground.
Let's start modding the case now....
I also buy a nes controller to take the button and button holder too...
Time to take some measure inside the case...
Let's solder some cable... And try to routing just to save some space.
Finally a found a raspy zero !!!
It fit good.... With a full size hdmi too....
Usb audio board. Desoldered averything !!!
And now take about the back side of the case...
1: Mono Amp by adafruit
2: USB octopus hub from aliexpress
3: USB sound card
4: powerboost 1000 charger by adafruit
5: wifi dongle based on RTL8188 chipset work out of the box
6: bluetooth dongle based on CSR851 work out the box
It seems all ready to be closed....
just the speaker is missing... Is arrived some day after i take the picture...
I put two tactile switch button too in the back like wermy did and i mapped as enter and escape. It could be useful !!!!
It works !!!
I think i posted every picture i have about my mod. Enjoy the view and feel free to ask everithing about that project.

Awesome! I saw someone else talking about doing a 6-button build a while back. In my head it seemed like it would look crazy, but this looks great!
