Aliexpress build

Post by Sudafed » Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:26 pm

Finished my aliexpress build:
Pi 3A+ (only part not from Ali) . This is quite a tight fit and the header and usb port need to be desoldered.

Display: MHS-3.5 fast SPI with JUJ driver. The display is a bit wide for the DMG shell so the bezel & board had to be trimmed a bit and also the driver had to be modified a bit because over scan doesn't work too well with it. I removed the digitizer and its chip.

Power: MH-42 power bank module hooked up to a push button and GPIO. Long press initiates soft shutdown (with a script), short press starts the module and the pie. The slide switch is wired to disconnect the battery. Changeover from charger to battery would reset the pie so I wired a 1F supercap to the 5V rail.

Buttons: GB zero board adapter and flex cable from Aliexpress, shoulder buttons from aliexpress soldered to a piece of perf board

Audio: amp and speaker wired to the pi. Soft keys for volume control.

Battery monitoring: the MH-42 has LEDs but wired an INA219 module into the batterywire for the display overlay and to check the current and wattage.

Old transparent GB DMG shell for test fitting the 3-d printed brackets.

Hasbat 4500 mAh (probably 3500 in real terms) Battery from aliexpress.

Software (most had to be modified):
- JUJ ili9431 divver
- retropie-status-overlay (also handles low bat shutdown and monitors power button)
- adafruit retrogame for the buttons
- triggerhappy script for the volume controls
- pi-ina219 and the i2c tools for the battery monitoring.
