Meh, I will be the first to admit that it would be lots cooler if he just gave them away, but he designed them so if he wants to sell them... My issue is I have never heard of the site he posted them to so no way in heck I'm entering my cc info.

shapeways is a legit 3d printing service. but that doesn't make selling the stl any less scummy... i get your point, but between making money off of a relatively simple 3d design and stuff like for example helder not wanting to realease the files for his pcb's there's a huge difference imho.

The .stl files are not on Shapeways they are on some site called Pinshape. Im sure its a legitimate site but as a general rule I usually shop online exclusively with paypal. I bought one for his inflated price, and I can tell you it was a great fit and works really well. But for 12 bucks I would have hoped that it came with both the top and bottom halves.....which it did not just sayin.

http://www.freecadweb.org/

Hope that helps.

That's on him if he wants to sell it or not and for whatever price he wants. No one has to buy it and I've seen similar things done on ebay with smaller parts for roughly the same money and shapeways is a little pricey depending on the size of the part.
Not everyone is willing to give up their work be it simple or not and that shouldn't be something to criticize people on.
