Fully 3D-Printed GBZ (Super GameGirl).

Post by chaosratt » Sat Nov 05, 2016 9:14 pm

AerynSun was kind enough to modify the Super GameGirl case files to be compatible with Helder's PCB designs. It's not perfect yet, but we're working on ironing out the last few details, and she's using this as a learning opportunity to make a whole new design from scratch.

In the mean time, the current prototype, in psudo-potato quality. Hot off the printer, so to speak.

Cool print! :)
Do you plan on finishing it with some paint, by any chance?

We'll have to see how well I can get the quality dialed in on this FDM printer. I've got some revised designs from Aeryn that I'm going to have a go at, and if they seem to work well I have access to an STL printer at work that'll be much higher quality print.

Aeryn and I are still working out the screen alignment issue for BW screens. She made her original designs off the adafruit screen which appears now to have a slightly different screen area vs overall size than the bw screens. She doesn't have ready access to a printer, and I don't do CAD, and we're quite a few timezones apart so it's taking some time.

So I got my 2.0 AIO in today, thanks @Helder

First problem is that the SuperGameGirl case was designed for a 1.0/1.4 style board, there's a rest point for the original factory DMG headphone jack that is simply too large and in the wrong place for the jack Helder used. Also, the SGG used a screw post in the bottom corner. opposite the speaker which now intereferes with the 2.0 AIO. Aeryn and I will need to work that issue out.

Some pics in the mean time.

Excuse the cracks on this one, I attempted to remove it from the build platform before it was fully cooled and ended up cracking it :(

Personally, I'm liking the feel of 'hard plastic button & membrane' rather than Kitsch's solid silicon buttons.

Great work! Are you going to release the STL files for others to use also?

Aeryn has delivered another update. The front cover has been tweaked to correctly fit my BW screen dimensions, the headphone jack has been moved to fit helder's new AIO 2.0, and a screw post blocked by the new power area has been relocated to the new hole on the AIO.

New front view (not much changed here):

We're currently brainstorming what to do about the modified screw hole, as it kind of throws things off on the back.

It's a shame I only got one AIO from helder, as I now have all the other parts to make another GBZ. Do I make 'yet another GBZ' or do I make a Super GBZ?
