Clear Blue Kite's Circuit Sword

Post by AntFJ » Tue Mar 06, 2018 9:37 pm

Hi all! HUGE thanks to Kite, Hoolyhoo, Wermy and YaYa for all their efforts, writeups, videos, and opensource sharing that let me build this (.stl files, code, stickers etc.) I hope I can give back to the community also - I spent hours on this build designing the 3d printed parts... they are all available here except for Hoolyhoo's screen bracket which you'll have to get from him. https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=5424

Some challenges and issues I had to overcome that may help others....
- Grind away under the battery tray to make room for the audio jack. Cutting away the raised section is not enough.
- When routing the joystick wires they cannot go OVER the joystick or there won't be enough room. If your joystick is sticking you can remove those plastic disks.
- Don't forget to update the code to get the second joystick to work. When oriented this way you will need to invert X2 in the code
- When dealing with a clear color'd case the plastic has a tendency to turn white. A small amount of focused heat can turn the plastic back to clear. Be very careful you can melt, burn or catch fire the plastic.
- LOTS OF KAPTON TAPE.

- The stickers were printed on an inkjet printer with Papilio Injet Vinyl Sticker paper and then covered with their Over Laminate.
- The upper buttons were almost flush with the case so I added a very thin piece of plastic into the buttons that I cut out to make them stick out a little more

Pictures... (how do I orient them up??? they are the correct orientation in windows before upload)

Thinking also about making a two joystick setup, is it comfortable to play withe those two and does the lower bother while using the d-pad orother things?

How is the feeling of the back buttons? I assume they are just DMG start and select buttons with Kites back buttons PCB?

I'll have to get back to you on that - i really haven't had a chance to play it yet. Already, it seems like it will be as comfortable as it can be if you've got giant hands it probably won't work.

For the back buttons I just cut up my extra start/ select buttons - they give a nice solid spring back to the up position. I think they work best with the fingers curled on the back. Ideally they would be a little higher but that isn't possible with kites board.

Very nice!

Do you mind sharing the 3D models for the printed parts you have used?
THX!

How did you cut out the holes for the back buttons? Did you use a guide?

Yes - if you take a look at the files in my design sharing post you can see the template. I bought a drill bit kit from Amazon that included all the sizes i needed. Final size of the slot is 3mm
