that looks really good! Is that the variant 7 screen from the wiki? If so how is the picture. I am using one in my most recent build and I found the picture is not as clear as the normal gearbest screen I use, and the text really fuzzy.

I have not removed the IC as you have, and just soldered a jumper to it. I'm wondering if that will help a bit, or if the screen in general is not as clear as the gearbest version I normally use.

Mostly wondering to determine if I should open it up and remove the IC, to help with clarity.

I've used the gearbest screen once before and quite a few of the variant 7 screens, TBH none of them are the same and the differences are subjective, I suspect screen to screen variations have a bigger impact than one particular design. I find the layout/size of the gearbest screen PCB doesn't fit the system very well or at least how I lay it out.
If you have ran a jumper from pin 3 to the +12V input I could see that having an effect but if you removed the +12V input wire and just soldered to pin 3 I'm not sure it would make much difference.

Ah yeah. I'll open it up and try that out. See how it changes. If at all.

Edit.

Ran the 5v wire right to the IC, skipping the 12v input. No change. I guess this screen quality isn't as good as the gearbest ones I normally use.

Not a deal breaker. Thanks for the tip.

Looks good....

Could be wrong....
But is your barrel jack wired incorrectly....
(Power is normally at the end, first two are normally ground)

After zooming in, it looks to be wired correct.

Good eyes Veteran, actually the USB to DC plug cables I got from Kitsch Bent are wired backwards (+ve is outer part of plug and inner is -ve). Which is the complete opposite to how they come from ebay/Aliexpress (and the general way of doing all DC plugs). Hence the reason I wired it that way. Just have to make sure that a cable and not a different charging cable in the future.

Also to add to Veterans's post use the bottom connector for ground (or +ve in my case) not the side one since the side one is disconnected when inserting a plug.
