First Build - Kite's Circuit Sword with pi CM3- GB Original case

Post by lowellbert » Sun Apr 08, 2018 2:58 pm

Hello,

This is my first build so don't mind the glue,

Some features include,

-Kite's Circuit Sword V1.1E https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sw ... inal-V1.1E
-6000mAh Lithium Ion battery (not sure battery life, so far going on about 6 hours?)
-Hoolyhoo's 3D printed Display holder https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2553
-Mounting screw standoffs took to long to arrive in the mail so just used an M2 screw and nut, heated with soldering iron and pushed in mounting holes.
-X + Y buttons
-L + R buttons
-lots of glue

Back - Glued in the game cartridge, Cut the button holes to try and fit the button PCB, but it wasn't working and then had to fit the batteries. So came up with this. Not that pretty, but the glue covers up some mistakes. Also, don't mind the melted look, this is from trying to reheat glue to pull out back button PCB.

Inside - Battery is 3 cells in parallel had to split one off so I could fit. Huge battery about 6000mAh
Side - USB and HDMI-miniShow

Side - SD slot, USB-C charging and mode buttonShow

Inside Front HalfShow

Inside Front Half - Raspberry Pi 3 Compute module. Added some Kapton tape to the WiFI module, still does not work. Had it working once, but since I joined both halves I think it shorted out :( I was having a hard time with the circuit board getting enough pressure against case so I added the blue disks to put some pressure back. They are laser cut.

Inside Back half - better view of the battery split, wires, glue, lots of Kapton Tape

RetroPie! - This thing is pretty awesome so far. Wifi still not working, but very happy with it so far. Looking into a second build with no glue and different colours.

Thoughts:
Fun build.
Glue, not the biggest fan of putting things in with glue because I can't go back and change it if I need too, as you can tell.
Temperature, I don't think I can squeeze a fan in there, but so far CPU temp is only getting to 60 degrees.
Joystick and buttons, would also like to add a joystick and more buttons so I can play N64 and PlayStation games. But this is great for SNES and GBA.
D-Pad and X-Y buttons, Haven't figured it out yet, but the D-Pad is sitting a little low, so makes it hard to push and it drops down if it is facing the front side downwards. If anyone has a tip for that much appreciated.

Thanks!
