Villemus' NEZ build from GBZ build spare parts

Post by Villemus » Fri Jul 08, 2016 8:02 am

So I'm not even finished yet with my GBZ build, but with spare parts from my GBZ build I was able to make what I dubbed my NEZ build.

Parts
RP0
USB NES game pad
3.5mm A/V jack
USB hub
2, 12mm tactile buttons
That's it. No sound yet since I don't have spare USB sound cards or PWM filters, but doesn't mean won't add it when I'm finished with my GBZ. I apologize for the pictures, I have no idea why they're rotated.

Cool idea. I like the minimalistic design :)

Thanks, I felt like it was such a shame to toss out so many parts. The gamepad donated its red buttons to my GB build, the 3.5 A/V jack came from a desoldered PiB+, the tactile buttons came from an old cell phone that donated its battery to my build, and the usb hub I had lying around.

I feel it could be more minimalistic if I did away with the AV jack and ran that connection through the USB cable.

How fun. I've thought of doing something similar with a SNES controller.

I stopped by my local Microcenter and picked up a SNES controller and opened it up. The space looked less forgiving than the NES controller, but looking at your posts, I know you'll have a better solution than I do to make it happen.

I was only able to visualize the Pi inside there but no hub or anything else.
