Can I charge the power boost another way?

Like instead of having a breakout board can I connect the charging leads of the powerboost for the battery to the 5v power input of the pi zero and have that be the charging port? Power goes in and goes into the power boost feeding the battery. Thoughts? Bad idea? Terrible idea? please let me know.

It means you'd only charge when the pi is on...
