I thought I would check the pins on the underside as you suggested and I can see a bunch of them bent. Not sure how I've done that maybe while soldering. I doubt it will make a clear connection like that. I'll take it apart and see if I need a new one.
Oh, don't forget the heat shrink, and attach them before you solder the other end of the wire.
IF you don't have heatshrink, just concentrate on the soldering.

Question aside: how are these types of wires called? I am interested.
I would like to bump my previous question here. I like these wires and how solid they are in their extremeties (not fluffy with copper hairs  ) but cannot put a name on them. Could you help me out here?

Its 1.27mm ribbon cable. I separated the wires as it was just hindering my soldering. They are tinned on here so they do have stranding.
I use these as well 1 x Hook-up Wire Spool Set - 22AWG Solid Core - 6 x 25 ft. From adafruit they are much more solid. But harder to manipulate, left me with a couple ruined solder pads when they lifted.

The url doesn't work anymore so I've included the name of the item too

For my projects i just use kynar wire it's only 0.30mm thick lol..
I've used them for 3 usb ports wich is 12 wires in total, and about 8 or so for the cart slot to pinpads.
I never had ANY problems of any kind, plus all these wires together is really slim and thin wich makes it really easy to close the case and saves alot of space, for me it always worked, never needed thick wires... oh and they are fluffy from the inside, you could use solid core too, but they tend to break after a few movements. however, for the power wires and video e.t.c i use some bigger ones.

So I've ordered the replacement part I needed, now the wait begins. While waiting I want to try some of the kynar wire probably the 28awg to rewire my case (had another snap) What is the wire you use for the power and video is this kynar also? . I was looking at possible getting silicone wire for this.
Also I do have some trouble stripping the smaller wires do you have any recommendation for stripping when working with the smaller wires ?

don't use 28/kynar for power. 24 awg seems to be the recommended size. it can take 3A. should be plenty for a GBZ.
video should probably be 26 or above, preferably shielded if poss.

kynar wire i just tin the end with the soldering iron to 'strip' it back.
if you look at the blue wire on the oscillator, it's just been melted back with the soldering iron then soldered to the legs
