First timer help

Post by Beautjes » Tue Aug 08, 2017 6:49 am

Hello everyone!

I have been thinking of making a GBZ for a while now and finally have the guts to start a project like this.
I also have been stalking the forum for picking the parts i need to build one but there are so many diffrent kind of builds that im lost atm...
This is what i have got now:

The shell is a GBA btw,

Raspberry Pi zero w

SNES controller for buttons
3.7v 3000mah lipo 2.8 TFT LCD Mono 2.5w audio amp 5V mini PCM2704 USB HIFI Also this amp 3.7V to 5V step up Is this all the parts i need or are there more?
I will be scraping the sound pedometer/ on-off switch and speaker from the original GBA.
Any thoughts on the parts list?

All help is welcome :D

Friendly regards a noob

how are you doing your button PCB? are you re-using the original gameboy PCB? There are common ground button boards available too which have the extra 2 button zones already in the PCB.

also that screen is SPI, so you'll need to follow @moosepr's guide for SPI screens, unlike the backup camera screens that most people use with composite video signal

all the parts you've specified seem fine :) though the buttons from the snes controller can be a little on the small side. you can get different coloured gameboy buttons from ebay/aliexpress etc (gamers zone on aliexpress is a great well known seller https://www.aliexpress.com/store/194561 ... 6595yYdXnX )

the snes controller is not great for re-using the PCB really. if you're going to re-use, I'd re-use the original DMG one or get a common ground one like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gameboy-DMG-0 ... SwacFZdd2K (just search ebay for common ground gameboy zero pcb)

if you choose to go with the snes pcb, you will need to make mods to it as it will not fit...
Be careful when you cut pcb, wear anti-dust mask as the dust released if full of really toxic chemicals. Or better cut outside BUT with a mask lol
You'd better buy a common ground from this forum. You can find stolen concept copies on ebay but the original is from here, so if you want to support the original designer, buy it from here :
http://market.sudomod.com/kitsch-bent-gbz-button-pcb/ (only button)
or here http://market.sudomod.com/gbz-button-pcb-by-helder/ (more evolved with built-in connectors for sound and stuff like that)
or this one http://market.sudomod.com/gbz-button-pcb-with-audio/ with built-in audio card
