Lack of storage space on Micro SD.

Hi all.

I recently installed retropie onto my Micro SD card which is a 32Gb Samsung class 10 job.

I have tried uploading some Roms but been told after about 5 copied over that the disc is full...I checked it in my PC and its showing as 90odd Mb in size. So it looks like its partitioned without labeling the rest?

How do i get the full 29Gb usable space back for Rom storage?

I suspect i have done something wrong with the install?

You have to expand the filesystem. New builds of Retropie are supposed to do this automatically, but I guess yours didn't for some reason. It's really easy to do manually though:

https://crispconcept.com/pages/expand-sd-card

Note that these instructions are for an older version of Retropie, so the menus may be different for you. (I think now it's Raspi config -> advanced options -> expand filesystem) Basically, just navigate around Raspi config until you find 'Expand Filesystem'.

Another possible issue: If you are using the sd card under windows only the boot partition is visible (which is about 100 mb). The roms go in the home/pi/Retropie/roms folder which is not directly accessible from a windows machine: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/

The expand filesystem should happen automatically when you start up retropie the first time.

Great. Thanks fellas. I am indeed looking through windows and not yet booted on my pizero.

Panic over and i will check back in once i have booted and checked again.

I was trying to get the SD card accessible through the cartridge mod but after three attempts i still cannot get that to work so i will have the SD card permanently mounted within the Pi zero now.

Thanks again!

You won’t be able to access the system within windows 10. You’ll have only access to /boot which does not contain roms and or extra material !

For Windows, use Paragon ExtFS trial or use the free Ext2Fsd Project.
