iPhone Battery - Anyone had any luck?

Post by IndyBonez » Sat Sep 30, 2017 10:40 am

Hi Guys,

I generally replace my own batteries in my iPhones when they start to fade, meaning I have lots of old batteries lying around while not perfect they still hold a decent charge (just not enough for a full days iPhone use). Just wondering if anyone has attempted to use on of these batteries in a project?

Old batteries will work, but you are of course going to be rolling with lower capacity (that's why you changed the battery in the first place) plus you need to be careful how you attach your cables. Soldering direct on the cells is risky.

You need to be careful too if the batteries are old and have gone really flat. Over discharge can cause internal shorts and such
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

I thought iphone batteries were less than 1800mah ? It’s really weak so i just can’t imagine an old one. But for recycling purposes and economy could do the trick
