About Li-iON batteries

Post by Al3x360 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 12:13 pm

Hey everyone,

I ordered some li-ion batteries for my GBZ Build, and i also ordered some charging IC / boards to charge the battery : those are TP 4056

I'm wondering if you can use (Charge) the battery while using the GBz?

No you can’t... unless the BMS is designed to act like a UPS module which gives also throughput to the Load.
And this board is not designed to act like a UPS. It’s only a charging module. So... it charges. That’s all.

This can help you...
Look what I found on AliExpress
http://s.aliexpress.com/BB7jEJBN

Or go with the bangoog stuff, or the adafruit powerboost 1000C, expensive, but fully approved by the community

Yes, the powerboost 1000C is designed for charging /discharging at the same time. The bangood stuff (i forgot the name) is the clone of Powerboost and costs like 4 time less

oh ok :) I did the test yesterday, you can use the load whilde charging, i mean, the led is still Red (I have same module that is on the website with the warning ) , but I guess it cuts the battery life in half each minute you use load on same time you charge .

But i was curious and just did a quick test . I will check the other module, becuase this is an all in one chip . but i think the IC will be warm isnt'it ?

I think that out and bat are connected together and are on the board just to have a clean mounting eg. wires to bat charging soldered and wires to the load instead of soldered to the battery or the same pads, have their own pads but connected from PCB to the battery...
So playing while charging is in fact emptying the battery and wasting the power for nothing as the circuitry isn’t able to handle both at the same time.
To be more explicit in and out are not directly connected to each other, you have the battery between them.

I have soldered anything ( i'm working on other projects that include battery) but i did an observation the + is on 2 pads but same track . The - is on 2 pads but are not the same . but i'll go for the other module you suggested
