Software troubles

Alrighty. Got everything somewhat sorted out and I'm about to wire the controller pcb, but before I go into that I'm having a bit of an issue. Got my retropie card set up. I know it isn't corrupted (used it on my Pi 2 just to be sure), but after everything starts up and the "RetroPie" splash screen comes up followed by "Illegal Action" just before putting me at the RetroPie terminal. Tried typing "emulationstation" but I get nothing. Can't shut it down, can't reboot. Nothing. Pretty sure I may have did something wrong here, but does anyone have experience with this particular issue (I checked this section of the forum, but the issues seem to different than what I've got at the moment)?
As always, any assistance is appreciate. Everybody have a good Sunday. 😊👍

Are you sure you are using the correct release of retropie? Are you using a PI0 in your build?

The PI2 and PI3 don't use the same version as the PI1 and PI0.

Currently they are:
Raspberry Pi 0/1
md5sum: 6cfb11dbe3554581e10d3deb8559ed63

Raspberry Pi 2/3
md5sum: edc151348f802c2a36f71270c53a30dd

See: https://retropie.org.uk/download/

So you will need the correct version for your hardware.

Just re-burn the image, and yes, check you have the proper version.
