Audiowiring: PAM8403, Speaker, Stereojack, RPI3

Post by Crashdummy » Wed Dec 20, 2017 2:47 am

Hey There :)

I hope it is correct to create a new Thread.
I saw a lot threads of Wiring but none of them could help me any further.

I'm doing a somehow similiar Build like Sotas.
( http://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... 5&start=20 )

I am using the same parts and ( for that concern ) did the same wiring.
My Potentiometer is Grounded at 1, Wiper Contacts at 2 and 3

Pi3: PP25 and PP26 (L/R Audio) to the Potentiometer ( Pin 4 and 5 ).
PAM8403: +/- to Powerboost, Inputs to Potentiometer (L,R -> 2,3), Ground to Pot (1), Left out to Speaker
Jack: L,R to Poti (2,3), Ground to Poti (1), Shutdown Pin with 10k Resistor to PAM8403 ( Pin12 (desoldered) ) <-- Like in Sotas Build.

Now here's the thing:
On the Speaker I have no sound at all (could be that I fried the PAM, but might as well not :D ).
On the Jack I have no sound as well. When I adjust the Volume with the Pot I only get louder hiss :(

Please help me :)
My Build is almost finished ( thats the only thing missing )

I couldn't find any Wiring for this scope ( Audiojack with wire to PAM8403 ShutdownPin ).
That's why I created this Thread in the first place, as I can't get it to Work with the Instruction from Sotas Project

Shutdown pin has nothing to do with wiring audio to the pam 8403. It is just that you can turn off the amp if needed.

your wiring is wrong.

It should be
1. ground
2. Left input
3. Right input
4. left output
5 right output

Oh okay Thanks for your help :)
Are you sure about that wiring ?
I may have used another Poti. I "destroyed" it, to see how it works and it looks like this:

However in the Link you Posted they placed the Pot after the Pam8403:
( My setting is Pi -> Pot -> Jack |
-> Pam8403 -> Speaker )

Could that be the Problem??
I couldn't find a datasheet for the jack the time I planned the Project, so I don't know where the Outputs are.

The "conventional" way is to place the pot before the amp. But I see people here put the pot after the amp.

There is a post here somewhere that discussed this...

I think it depends on the exact components you have and what they can handle. Personally, I used a second hand pot from an old device, and placed it after the amp. After a minute of use the pot was burning hot. It couldn't handle the current, so I placed it before the amp instead and had success.
