Headphone left ear really loud

Post by aggiehavoc » Fri Jan 05, 2018 9:24 am

Hello,

I wired up my audio as mono similar to what wermy did, but I am using an aftermarket headphone jack. I found the pinout and got everything wired up. The headphones kick on and the speaker shuts off as it should. The right ear sounds perfect. However, the left ear (which should just be a duplicate of the right) is extremely loud and crackly. Any thoughts on what I did wrong? See the attached picture for my wiring.

Thanks!

OK, so a little progress here... I changed the output of the sound driver to go into the Left In of the jack and the Left output of the jack to the speaker. Before, everything was going through the right. Now, both right and left match. That said, the output on both is still insanely loud. The volume potentiometer works well for the speaker, but i only notice a light difference for the headphones. They are just insanely over-driven. Thoughts?

Maybe put the headphones before the Amplifier? I typically don't use headphones (unless they are in an AIO) so I don't have any concrete answers. But that is what i would try.

I can try that, but I'd think that the Pi output wouldn't drive the headphones.

Also. The adafruit amp has a small screw pot on it. Lowering that may help as well.

I did not realize that. Will that affect the volume of the speaker itself?

Would it make sense to add a resistor between the right input and left input and connect the left output just to the left input?
