New Gearbest LCD, screen spill and overscan issues.

Hi there,

I received my LCD in the mail the other day and began testing. Initially it had a huge black border on the right side which I promptly rectified by swapping 'sdtvmode' to '0'. Now the issue is that the right hand side border is still visible, although much smaller.

Can't really take a good picture because they're always over exposed but you can see the black border on the right. I have set my resolution to 320x240 in the config.txt and have tried setting overscan (didn't seem to do anything).

Here is a picture of how the screen is connected to the Pi for testing:

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

Just to be safe:
You did Remove the '#' before these lines?
I am using this screen as well and got the Bars completely removed with these settings:

overscan_left=-16
overscan_right=-23
overscan_top=-18
overscan_bottom=-22
( Well will most certainly differ from yours, yet notice the '-' as you need some negative Values as you have too much overscan ).

Did you try to deactivate OVerscan at all ?
( Retropie Menu --> Raspi-Config --> Advanced --> OVerscan --> No

Thanks for the reply Crashdummy,

I've tried your settings with no luck, the black bar doesn't seem to move at all with any overscan setting in the config.txt. I've created a pastebin with my config.txt to help shed light on the issue.
Pastebin here.

Is it possible that the display is faulty?

Thanks again,

I don't see a big deal with the photo, some of that black area on the side will be covered by the screen surround, so it may not even matter in the end. As for the config.txt don't just add the numbers posted above, you will need to play around with those numbers for your screen. Increase and decrease them, and you will see differences. You have to reboot each time to see the change.

I should clarify that I did try multiple changes to the overscan numbers on the right, left, top and bottom multiple times with reboots in between. Unfortunately nothing changed. Each line is uncommented and I can't seem to figure out a reason as to why the screen isn't affected with the code changes. Could this be a hardware issue? I'm yet to try re-imaging the Pi with a clean install of Retropie 4.3.

Also, while I am here. Is there a fix or workaround for the flickering on the gearbest screen?

Thanks,

Ah okay. Not sure then. But try what tinkerBOY mentioned.

As for flickering, I've never had that issue with a gearbest screen. Ensure that the power/ground/signal wires are all soldered good.
