Help converting BW screen to 5V

Post by trisfoz » Tue Mar 06, 2018 1:27 pm

Hello Everybody.

I bought the BW auto monitor from Amazon.
My board looks like the "Variant 10" in the wiki, but the voltage regulator is different (the one in the wiki is JWBV795D).

I checked the 6-pinned chip labelled "JWBV604D" on my board looking for the voltage regulator.
I searched online for the datasheets without success. I supplied the board with 19V and in the image I added the voltages that I measured on each pin.
In the wiki, the 5V was soldered to pin 6, but my pin 6 has an output of 3.3V.
Will the conversion work?

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Thump52, thankyou for your message.
You soldered the 5V VCC wire to pin 7 on the MK25D40BTIG1739 chip?
Thank you for your help.

I don't have a good pic of the chip number, but it looks very similar to the one you have, I would test it with a multi meter to make sure, but it does look like the one I had, good luck.

This the wiring for that board to run from 3.3V . It has been tested and you dont have to mess around with IC soldering/desoldering. Just connect the Edited wires yellow, black, and red.

According to this site the chip in the picture (MK25D40BTIG1739) is a data storage chip and not the voltage regulator!

https://www.yoycart.com/Product/562466580239/

Are there any other chips on the board?
Maybe on the other side?

I think the 3.3v solution provided by hex would be beter to try out first, the video chip runs on 3.3v so beter be safe...

Hi Hex, Thank you for your reply and your solution.

I used the 3.3V on the raspberry pi and wired it as in your pic to power the screen and it works great.
I can now finish my build.

Thank you and Wailer for your help.

Hey mate

thanks for the images

so did you wire anything to the power pads in the bottom left of the raspberry pi like in the image ?

or did you just go red, black to the gpio pins and and yellow to tv ?

Hi,

No I did not wire anything to the 5V power pads. I just wired the red and black to the gpio pins (3.3V and GND) and and yellow to the tv composit pad.

Good luck.
Thanks.
