BW screen getting warm
Hello fellow modders,
I noticed that my bw display is getting warm after some time.
The heat i believe is emitted by the pcb, its not the graphics chip but the capacitors surrounding the voltage regulator.
Has anyone noticed this, or is this normal.
My screen runs on 5v with no modding needed.

Re: BW screen getting warm
The BW screen I used on my first build gets hot to the touch on the graphics chip but I play with it almost everyday without any problem. Although it works with 5v out of the box I still modified it to directly work with 5v. Much more power efficient this way.

Re: BW screen getting warm
Ok, thanks for the info.
My build isn't completely finished so maybe I'll remove the voltage regulator anyway.
It's good to hear that heat development isn't causing any problems.

Hey can you post pics of your display pcb ?

Re: BW screen getting warm
See the empty holes on the right side? The top most is 3.3v and bellow that is GND. That should power your lcd nicely. Use that and the composite input (3 wires in total) for the LCD. That should do

Re: BW screen getting warm
Good suggestion, hadn't thought of that I will give it a try.
If i understand this correctly this should bypass the on board regulator, and that (at least the capacitors surrounding the regulator) is the main source of the heat development.

Re: BW screen getting warm
Here's another pic of the back of the pcb.
To bad there's no further (silkscreen) info on the four extra connector's.
But there are a lot of test-points worth checking out...

Re: BW screen getting warm
You can use the 5v test point for 5v or use the 3.3v i suggested. The IC runs on 3.3v and the entire board works on 3.3v so it should not be a problem. This is useful if powering directly from 3.7v battery without a boost circuit.
