Hello everyone,

I received one of these BW amazon screens and PCB didn't match any of the variants:

I saw that in other variants the top pin of 1117H was used for 5V conversion so I did this here too (apologies for the terrible wiring job, but it works )

However I noticed that after being on for ~5 minutes the components highlighted in red in the image above get scorching hot. Any ideas as to what may be happening here? Is there another way to mod this board to use 5V or 3.3V?

Thanks for any help here!

Did you check if the screen worked on 5v before modifying? What about 12v, do the caps and inductor get hot then also?

Yup, I tried 5V without any modifications and didn't work. I was not able to test 12V though so I'm not sure about the temperature there. I did have 5V hooked up unmodified (even though the screen didn't work) and left it for several minutes to observe the heat and things were much cooler.

I've been having this issue as well. Have you been able to come up with a solution?

Seems like you're over powering something from the sound of it. Are you sure that regulator is for 5v and not 3.3v? If you undo the mod and power it with 12v you can probe around to see where 5v is and mod to that point and it should work.
