Power Jack Socket and JST connector

Post by Marty33 » Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:13 pm

Hello all.

I want to use a JST connector to make the connections with Power Jack Socket (allowing easier disassembly possible).

But does the JST connector carry enough power?

Or i MUST solder the wires on the Power jack ?

Big thanks for help

personally i would advise against using too many JST connectors (only if it is really necessary, like the battery)....
(and if using any, opt for the 2.0 PH JST mainly for the size)

if you look at my 1st build, i thought having JST was a great idea....

by the 13th or 14th build (i've lost count), i have reduced it to the bear minimum.....

the reasoning behind this (for me, based on my own experience)....
they can get in the way when closing
just making more work for yourself

and more importantly (this is the crux of it), if you've built the Game Boy properly you will not open it up again

i've built a couple for my kids (6yrs & 4yrs) and they have used them properly (been bashed and dropped) and i've never had the need to open one up yet ....
even with the ones i've given away or sold, no one has ever asked me to have a look at them or for it to be opened up to be check if something isnt working
(even thou i still build as if the need arise i can still open it up easily)

these Game Boy build are fairly sturdy and the parts used are also robust for being cheap items from China

just make sure everything is securely fixed in place and that all you solder joint are solid, and you will not need to open your built up again

apologies this may not have answered your initial question....

its depending on where your power module is, but i would just wire directly...
(using a good gauge wire for all main power, charging port, battery, 5V out to power everything)

you answered my question :-)

No glue for my new build. I work with my 3D printer. All is fixed with screws and nuts/inserts.

I use 24awg for audio, USB and power ? It's OK ?
