ADS1015 Battery Monitor Question

Post by infinitLoop » Wed Jan 16, 2019 10:27 am

Hello everyone,

Can anyone answer if it is necessary to run the power through the DPDT (or the 3pin) power switch when using the ADS1015 and the mintypi script to do the on-screen battery monitor, as the schematics on the forums lay out? If I'm using the AdaFruit Powerboost, with the Engage Pin, can I just hook the ADS into the battery and power lines, without going through that switch, or is there another reason besides cutting the power off for running it through that?

thanks!

just wiring in the switch doesn't achieve the safe shutdown, right? i would need a controller like camble's board to do it still... or is that why you would wire it like that, through the switch?

pretty sure on the answer, just doubting myself... i can wire it up like your scheme in that thread, just ignoring the safe shutdown stuff.

thanks (as well for all the other answers i've gotten from your other threads!)

you wont get a safe shutdown from just installing or wiring up a switch.....
the switch will only just cut the power completely....
this does not shutdown the system "safely"
(not shutting down the system safely/properly could result in a corrupted SD Card)

do implement or initiate a safe/proper shutdown you have to.....

do this via the Emulation Station menu and select shutdown (you still have to kill the power after this)....

enable/install a script to do a Safe Shutdown via the press of a button
the mintybatterymontior script already has this, you just need to add a tactile button to your build so you can initiate the shutdown...
then you flip the On/Off switch to completely kill the power.....

then you have Camble Safe Shutdown board which allows you to initiate the Safe Shutdown from the main On/Off switch...
by flipping the switch, it sends a signal to the Raspberry Pi to shut down safely and after a very slight delay (once the system has shut down) it will kill the power....
