Need help with Control board modification

So I made a boo-boo and wasn't paying attention when I purchased my new dmg control panel off of kitschbent. I accidentally purchased the 2 button one instead of the X/Y 4 button version which I thought I was purchasing and I really dont want to try and return it or wait for another one.

I do have the parts from a controller I took apart I think I know what i need to do but im not sure and want to check before cutting it up.

I took a picture of what I think i can do if someone can comment and let me know if im on the right path.

Will I also need to connect the ground on this cutout board if so to what?

Yes, to the ground of the bigger board, of course.
You should try to get a holesaw (i think this is what it's called) and only cut out the buttons.
